De-Esser

Applicability

This description applies to the Mono and Stereo versions of the De-Esser module.

Overview

De-Esser is a module for reducing excessive sibilance or harsh high-frequency components in speech and program material.

Processing Principle

The module detects signal energy in a selected frequency range and reduces it according to the configured filter and range settings. Grouping controls whether channels are processed together or independently.

Description

Linking

Controls how channel parameters are linked and the sidechain is grouped for de-essing.

Enable

Enables or disables the de-esser stage.

Frequency

Sets the center or cutoff frequency used by the de-esser filter.

Range

Limits the maximum amount of de-essing.

Q Factor

Sets the quality (inverse bandwidth) or selectivity of the de-esser filter.

Filter Type

Selects the filter type used for sibilance detection or reduction.
