Compressor

Applicability

This description applies to the Stereo, Surround, and Immersive versions of the Compressor module.

Overview

Compressor is a module for reducing the dynamic range of a signal. It is used to control level variations and increase consistency before later loudness control or output processing stages.

Processing Principle

The module adjusts signal level according to the selected reference level, ratio, range, and processing profile. Grouping controls whether channels are processed together or independently. The upward compression principle follows the characteristics of the legendary "Jünger Compressors" from the late 1980s and 1990s.

Parameters

Parameter

Description

Linking

Controls how channels are linked in the sidechain for compression.

Enable

Enables or disables the compressor stage.

Reference Level

Sets the reference level used by the compressor. The reference level is the point where the compression response curve crosses with the linear response.

Range

Limits the maximum compression range. The range parameter works symmetrical (above and below reference level).

Ratio

Sets the amount of compression by the steepness of the response curve.

Processing Profile

Selects the compressor processing profile which represent the attack and release timings of the processor.

Clear Processing History

Clears the internal processing history when applied or when a preset is loaded.
